How to Play TriviaX

TriviaX has four games. Three of them are played online, each player on their own phone. The Team Game is played together in one room, on one device, with a host.

Play Online

Tap Play Online on the home screen. You can join one of the open rooms, or create your own room:

  1. Choose a game: Speed, Trap or Thief.
  2. Pick at least 3 topics and adjust the settings.
  3. Open the room and share the game code (or QR code) with your friends.
  4. When everyone is in the waiting room, the host starts the game.

An online room holds 2 to 6 players. The highest score at the end wins.

Speed Game

The fastest answer scores the most points.

Everyone sees the same multiple-choice question at the same time, with four options and a timer. Pick your answer before the time runs out. Speed matters: the first player to answer correctly earns the most.

Scoring
First correct answer3 points
Any other correct answer2 points
Wrong answer or no answer0 points

Trap Game

Write sneaky fake answers and set traps for others.

  1. Each round, one player picks the topic and a question appears, without any options.
  2. Every player writes a fake answer that sounds real. This is your trap.
  3. All the fake answers are mixed in with the real one.
  4. Now everyone tries to pick the real answer and avoid the traps.
Scoring
You are the only one to pick the real answer3 points
You pick the real answer along with others2 points
Each player who falls for your trap+1 point

Thief Game

Steal points or keep your own.

Answer the multiple-choice question correctly to earn the right to act. Every player who got it right then has a few seconds to choose one move:

Keep

Add 1 point to yourself.

Steal

Take 2 points from another player.

Answer wrong and you sit that round out, and you might be the next target.

Team Game

Two teams, one board, one host.

The Team Game is made for game nights. One person is the host and holds the device; everyone else splits into two teams.

  1. Name the game and the two teams, and set how many members each team has.
  2. Pick 4 to 6 topics. Each topic adds questions worth 200, 400 and 600 points to the board.
  3. Teams take turns choosing a question from the board. Harder questions are worth more.
  4. The host reads the question aloud, reveals the answer, and gives the points to the team that answered correctly (or to nobody).

Each team can use each of these helpers once per game:

  • Double: earn extra points (1.5x) on a question.
  • Steal: if your team answers correctly, the question's points are also taken from the other team.
  • Call a friend: 20 seconds to phone someone for help, on your turn.

The team with the most points when the board is cleared wins.
